Book Blog Hop

Time to Hop!

One of the things I’ve been trying to do a lot of since starting this blog is check out other awesome book review blogs and get involved in some of the weekly challenges and prompts they use.

Today I’m going to be taking part in the Book Blogger Hop! This is currently active over at Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer and bloggers all over the sphere get involved to answer the prompt, visit some of the other responses, and make new connections!

This week’s prompt comes from Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews and they asked:  “Do you review all of the books you read?”

And my answer is: Kind of, yeah, but I don’t review them all the same way. I review almost everything on Goodreads now, or I try to. I don’t always write the full review complete with many paragraphs that I post on my blog, but usually something. If a book I’m reading is older though or I don’t love it but no one’s heard of it or if I just don’t have that much to say at all about it, I’ll skip the review.

What I love about reviewing books is sharing the stories and characters that I LOVE. That doesn’t mean I won’t write a bad review, in fact my love for books just means that my bad reviews can be passionate. Still, the moment I think to myself while reading a book “I can’t wait to tell everyone about this” is the moment I know I’ll write up a full review for it.

I’m still new at this so I don’t yet have a specific system for what I will and won’t review, maybe I’ll develop one over time, but for now– I’m content to just review what my heart calls me to, the good and the ugly.

Reviewers, do you write a full review for every book you read? How do you decide?

Tell me in the comments!

This week’s prompt comes from Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews and they asked:  “Would you or do you choose a book solely on the cover?

And my answer is: Sometimes, yeah.

I won’t usually discard a book based on its cover, with a few exceptions here and there, but I pick books up all the time becasue the cover interests me, and then I read the synopsis. Unless it’s an author I already know that I love or something else equally compelling, nothing can really get me to buy a book except the synopsis. But damn, a cool cover sure does help!

This week is a double question week! The first prompt comes from Nicki @ Nicki J. Markus/Asta Idonea and they asked: “Which is your favourite library (or which would you most like to visit)?

Our second question comes from Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews and they asked: “How often do you visit the library?

And my answer is: Second question first: I love the library. I am young and broke so the public library is my best friend when it comes to reading whatever I want. My favorite library service has to be the ability to rent audio and e-books from an app on my phone, I use that all the time. Libraries are so underrated! There are so many amazing events hosted there, I love the curated displays that always introduce me to something new, and librarians are some of the most interesting and helpful people I’ve met. And it’s free! As long as you turn your books in on time…Oops!

Which is my favorite library? Ooh, that’s a tough one. The most incredible library that I have personally visited has probably been The Old Library at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.

However, there are also so many gorgeous libraries that I would love to visit! Here are just a few: The Library of the Benedictine Monstary, The George Peabody Library, the New York City Public Library, so many more.

Do you have a dream library? Where is it? Tell me in the comments!

This week’s prompt comes from Billy @ The Coffee Addicted Writer and they asked:  “Have you ever been called a “book nerd?” If so, how did you react?

And my answer is: I…don’t know? But I’m cracking up at myself for that answer. I’m sure that I have, but apparently I was either too dense to be offended or it was so insignificant that I don’t even remember. I hate that people are made fun of for reading, it is literally the stupidest thing to make fun of someone for. And no one should feel bad about it. Ah, in a perfect world.

And my answer is: Maybe The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins? Or The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. Or like…a bunch of old Greek plays I read in High School, but I’m not going to count those.

What’s the oldest work you’ve ever read? Why’d you read it? Did you love it? Hate it? Tell me in the comments below!

This week’s prompt comes from Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews (again!) and she asked: “Do you read books over 400+ pages?”

And my answer is: Absolutely. Especially because I love fantasy, there’s no way I could read all the books I want to read and still avoid the long ones. That just isn’t possible in that genre. Plus some of my favorite books are over 400 pages. I’d hate to miss out just because of a page count. I may strategically time them, depending on what other books I’m reviewing, but I definitely still read them.

What about you? Do you edit your lists depending on how long a book is?
